Overview
Not for the timid, this is outrageously pricey, enormously powerful, and antiquated in appearance. The G63, whose history dates to 1979, still has the same timeless fashionista-meets-Sandinista aesthetic. A seven-speed automatic is mated to the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8, which has 563 horsepower and 561 lb.-ft of torque. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system from Mercedes is standard. With a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V-12 engine producing 621 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft of torque, the G65 cranks up the craziness even more. Nota bene: These Mercedes-Benz vehicles are replaced by the Mercedes-AMG variations.
Engine, Transmission, Performance
The Mercedes-AMG G63 retains the Mercedes-Benz G550's outstanding off-road abilities and trail-ready features, but it also sports a more potent twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 that generates 577 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft of torque. All that power is channeled through a nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters placed on the steering wheel to an all-wheel-drive system that prioritizes rear traction for more excellent handling and acceleration. This rugged buggy accelerated from 0 to 60 mph on our test track in just 3.9 seconds, which is 0.9 seconds faster than the G63 we tested from the previous generation. The G63 also receives AMG-specific modifications, like suspension and transmission calibration and added power.
Interior, Comfort, Cargo
On the new AMG variant, which has a noticeably different grille, flared fenders, side-exit exhaust pipes, and wheels as large as 22 inches, the modifications Mercedes has made to the G-Class under the Benz name are also improved. The overall aesthetic is more opulent and aggressive. The inside also has imaginative characteristics, mixing high-end materials with cutting-edge technology. Included are the optional dual dashboard screens, each measuring 12.3 inches and offering a variety of user-selectable combinations. The cabin of the G63 features better noise and vibration isolation as well, in part because of its wholly redesigned design. Additionally, it indicates that the G-wagon has more excellent interior room for passengers than the one from before. Even though the business has only released details about the G63 model, we're sure that a more potent variant—possibly sporting the G65 badge—will ultimately join the fray.
