The drool-worthy 488GTB is an unusual two-seater that deserves to be commemorated with a poster on your bedroom wall. It is the most recent in a long line of mid-engine Ferraris. Aerodynamics, as well as its renowned Italian designers, helped to develop its look. In addition to the standard 488 coupes, there is the Spider retractable hardtop and the Pista, a new, more extreme model for 2019 that is only available as a coupe.
Engine, Transmission, Performance
The 488GTB produces a thunderous howl and fierce acceleration up to 8000 rpm with a mid-mounted twin-turbo 3.9-liter V-8 that produces 661 horsepower. According to our estimates, the only available transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, which can reach 60 mph in about 3.0 seconds. The adaptive suspension used by Ferrari is comparatively supple without compromising handling. The Pista variant is considerably more potent, producing 710 horsepower, and should accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds. Pista, which translates to "track" in Italian, describes this special edition's ability to compete with rivals like the McLaren 720S and the Lamborghini Aventador.
Interior, Comfort, Cargo
Nearly everything in its racy, driver-focused cabin is accented with fine leather, suede, carbon fiber, and metal. Although there is enough room inside for two adults, don't anticipate much in the way of connectivity or infotainment. Most of the controls, including the several driving modes for the 488 and the bright red ignition switch, are operated through a digital readout in the gauge cluster via buttons and toggles on the steering wheel. There is no central radio display.
